ミュージカル映画「オズの魔法使い」は、ライマン・フランク・ボームの児童文学作品を映画化した1939年の作品。ファンタスティックな雰囲気とともに、ジュディ・ガーランドの演技が人気を集めた。

「虹の彼方に」は映画の中で、主人公の少女ドロシーが、知らない世界への憧れを歌ったもの。映画とは離れてスタンダードナンバーとなった名曲だ。イップ・ハーバーグ作詞、ハロルド・アーレン作曲。
